Instructions:

  1. Place the embossing folder on ¼ of the bottom of the card front and emboss using the Big Shot. TIP: Be careful not to allow the card base to shift as you emboss it. If it shifts slightly at the top, the ribbon will hide it.

  3. Color in the image using the Watercolor Pencils (Old Olive, Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie).
  4. Place a small strip of Tear & Tape horizontally between the embossed area and the stamped greeting to hold the ribbon in place. Wrap the ribbon around the card and finish by tying a knot in the front as shown. Trim the ribbon ends if necessary

Quick Crafting Tip - How to Make Your Own Stencils and Masks

There are new masks (aka "stencils") in the annual catalog. They can be found on page 201. The Pattern Party Decorative Masks can be used with a sponge or dauber or over the newest accessory - Embossing Paste!

Embossing Paste is remarkably easy to use, fast drying (so fast be sure to wash off your mask/stencil right away!) and creates the most incredible texture! If you like mixed media, texture and accessories, this is a product you must have.  One jar will make about 50 cards making it very economical too.   The Embossing past is placed over the mask to create a textured background. You can view the quick video on how it works HERE.

You may be wondering, what if I want other patterns?

That's easily accomplished by making your own.  Today's quick tip video will teach you how to create your own masks/stencils using the Stampin' Up! Window Sheets and your favorite die.

I've included a picture and cutting dimensions for my completed card below.

Stenciling and pasting just got lots more fun!

This Little Round Piggy

I've never seen a skinny pig so I'd say 'round' is probably a good way to describe them.

Because of their round stature I thought a round stitched shape was fitting.

I began with a piece of Color Theory designer paper and cut it 1/8" narrower than I would need. This allowed me space to add a strip of the Pick a Pattern Washi Tape.

If you haven't given our newest selection of Washi Tape a look, head over to page 195.  The 4 color groups each contain 5 different rolls with fun patterns and varying widths. I'm a big fan!

I used watercolor paper for the stitched circle and stamped the image using Basic Black ink.  I'll call this 'messy watercoloring' because I started with one layer of Powder Pink ink then added a little Flirty Flamingo and Crumb Cake.  I wasn't at all worried about where the color ended up. I have never seen a shiny clean pig, have you? ((smile))

Swirly Bird Happy

A card layout is often times the toughest thing to decide upon when you create a card.

Where do you place designer paper, the greeting and the image?

Pinterest is loaded with card sketches and layouts to help.  These sketches aren't completed cards, but a drawing of where the layers and details can placed.

I used the Swirly Bird stamp set to create this card.

I love trying new layouts and many times I create them as I stamp.  I saw a sketch that had diagonal lines along the edges so I started scouring my my stamp room to look for something that might work.

And, I found it!

There's a striped double triangle image in this set.  This image, used with the solid image mimicking it, create a kite. I saw those stripes and thought, "this will work".

I inked the larger end of this image and stamped it along the edge of the Whisper White cardstock, repeating the pattern.  I was thrilled with how it came out!

I used the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits to create the overlays for my flowers and the Happy Birthday Thinlits to create the greeting.  I cut off the word "birthday" with my Paper Snips which left me with just "happy".  The new Mini Dimensionals helped to create the 3D look for the words.

I created the sketch below, using my card as inspiration.  If you don't already have a Pinterest board for card sketches and layouts, create one.  This sketch is a great beginning when you want to design your next card.
