Christmas Pines Noel

We are just 92 days away from Christmas!

For some of you that makes you nervous. For others, like myself, you're super excited.  Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year.

I love the decorations, the music, church services, buying and wrapping gifts, baking and spending time with family and friends.  It's the one time a year that I feel peaceful.

Part of the reason I enjoy the holidays so much is that I begin to prepare well in advance.  This year we will be spending Thanksgiving with my Mom and step Dad in Las Vegas. My typical Black Friday is spent decorating our home and six (yes, I said 6!) Christmas trees.  Since we won't be here I'll be starting early.  I started my shopping early, too.  All three of my great nephews gifts are bought.  I've even gotten a few things for Boo's stocking.

With only 93 days to go I thought you would enjoy a free tutorial to create this beautiful Noel card.  It features the new red and green metallic thread and the Real Red Glitter Embossing Powder. This picture doesn't capture the shimmer but it's stunning!

And, for those of you wanting to make your Christmas cards this year let me give you a little free, unsolicited advice.

  1. Keep it simple.  Cards just like this one are beautiful because of the little things like the metallic thread and embossed background.  You certainly don't have to heat emboss if you're making 100 cards - if you don't want to.
  2. Start NOW!  If you cram to get them finished you won't enjoy the process.
  3. If you're like me, making 100 of the same card gets monotonous so I mix it up.  Consider making 20 of one card, 25 of another, etc.

And, above all else, remember that YOUR handmade card DOES make a difference when it's received.  I promise!

Happy 92 days to go!

Quick Crafting Tip - 4 Different Uses for the Classic Label Punch

My Big Shot is my favorite paper crafting tool.  My punches are my second favorite.  The best part of owning a punch is finding additional ways to use it.

The Classic Label Punch was added to the Stampin' Up! annual catalog in June.  This punch coordinates with the Thoughtful Banners stamp set (page 73).  If you've been following my blog you will know that I've used this stamp set over and over again since it's release.  The greetings can be used individually or grouped together to make phrases.  There are 53 different images which makes it incredibly versatile.

While I've enjoyed using this punch for its intended purpose, I've found several other ways to enjoy it and thought you would, too.

Love & Affection for Mom

Mom at MJ concert

This special person is my mom and today is her birthday!

How old she is doesn't matter and honestly, she doesn't look her age.  She's itty bitty with a heart bigger than Texas.  Over the years, she's given me incredible advice.  Some of which I should have taken and lots that I did!

My Mom lives in Las Vegas and I try to visit regularly, but it's a long, expensive trip from Florida. That's all changing this Thanksgiving when we will all be together!  Bob the Builder and Boo will be coming, too!  My Mom hasn't seen Boo in 3 years and I know she'll be delighted by how much she has grown and changed.

This picture was taken last May, outside the showroom at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.  My Mom and step Dad treated me to the Michael Jackson "One" performance during our visit.  And, in case you didn't know, I am a big MJ fan.  Despite the years of controversy surrounding him, he was incredibly talented and I love his music.  Side note: MJ's Dad lived next door to my folks for several years and they have become friends. Strange "coincidence", huh?

2012 with baby jack

This picture was taken nearly 5 years ago.  My great nephew, my Mom's great grandson, Jack, was about a year old.  As I've watched Jack grow, I remember some of the things my Mom used to say to me.  "Wait until you have kids some day."  "Don't tell me not to worry, I'm your Mom."  And the classic, "because I said so."

I never quite understood those comments when I was young.

Until this happened!

4 generations pic

Please excuse the horrible quality of this picture.  It was taken with an "old fashioned" camera back in 1993.  That's me on the right, my Mom in the center, and my grandmother, "Nana", on the left.  In my Mom's arms...Boo!  Boo was just a few days old.  This is the only picture I have of all four generations and it's a treasured photo.

During the past 23 years I've mimicked the words my Mom once said me.  My favorite..."wait until you have kids someday."  When I had Boo, everything changed!  I worried.  I told her "because I said so".  I've given her advice.  Half of which she's never taken - just like I did.

What's more fitting for Mom than the Love & Affection stamp set and Floral Affection Embossing Folder?

I used a Dapper Denim cardstock base, added a square and scallop square using the Layering Squares Framelits and a few pearls.

I treasure my family.  I treasure my Mom.  She's strong, encouraging, generous and loving.  I'm glad God chose HER for ME!

Here's to wonderful you. Happy Birthday, Mom!
